Today we want to send a big congrats to 16-year-old Megan who wrapped up her last round of treatment at 8:00 am yesterday morning. It was last fall when Megan wasn’t feeling well, despite several trips to the doctor’s office no one could figure out what was wrong. But then some startling results were found after a blood draw; Megan’s doctors noticed her red blood cells were low. They called the family on Christmas Eve and told them to turn around at once – they needed Megan back to the hospital right away. During the past year Megan has not attended school as she’s spent time going through treatment for ALL leukemia. But with yesterday’s good news, Megan hopes to return to Springville High in January.
(The Halloween carnival is an annual tradition at Springville High, featuring several booths and games set up by the various clubs at the school)
Coincidentally, Springville High has held more annual fundraisers for the Foundation than any other school in the state. When the school reached out to us this fall, looking for a wish to sponsor, it was no question that Megan would be a perfect fit. So yesterday morning when Megan was released from the hospital, she (along with her entire family) hopped in the car and drove straight to Springville High where an assembly to kick off their week of fundraising activities was taking place. Megan was spotlighted as a guest of honor and her mother spoke about some of the hardships Megan has faced during the past year.
Megan is now looking forward to a bright future, one which includes a wish to go on a California vacation. While she’s there she hopes to visit the theme parks and spend a day at the beach. For the girl who has been through so much, a wish trip out of state will bring some much deserved time in the sun as she leaves her worries behind. Special thanks to wish granters Fay Andrews and Katie Salmond for helping to make Megan’s wish come true!
